S.R.I Founders Hike 2.0

The second annual S.R.I. Founders Hike took place this week in Cunningham Falls State Park and Catoctin Mountain National Park in Maryland.

The equipment failure pictured could not prevent the intrepid souls involved from achieving total victory over the trail, weather, fire, or sausage and pepperoni pizza.

Consideration for Membership

To be considered for membership in the Society of Rugged Intellectuals, hereafter referred to as the SRI, applicants should strive to meet 75% of the following qualifications. Meeting this percentage of qualifications does not guarantee membership, nor does failure to meet the this percentage of qualifications guarantee rejection. Acceptance of applications for membership is entirely at the discretion of the Founding Triumvirate. The Founding Triumvirate may or may not choose to reveal the reasoning behind any acceptance or rejection. The Founding Triumvirate may request that an applicant reapply after meeting additional qualifications, which may or may not be enumerated for the applicant. The Founding Triumvirate may request that the applicant not reapply regardless of the percentage of qualifications met.
Those wishing to be considered for membership must be nominated by an SRI member and have a SRI member as their sponsor.
Those wishing to be considered for membership in the SRI will improve their chances for acceptance by meeting 75% of the following qualifications:

-Have reached the age of 35 years.
-Have suffered a major injury related to an athletic/recreational pursuit.
-Have participated in a collegiate or professional sport.
-Have been employed in an occupation requiring manual/physical labor.
-Have earned an advanced academic degree.
-Have an area of expertise beyond that of their vocation.
-Have served in the military.
-Have been a published author, exhibited artist, or performing musician/vocalist.
-Have traveled to a minimum of 10 countries or 3 continents.
-Have traveled to a minimum of32 states, provinces or territories.
-Have resided in a minimum of 4 states, provinces, or territories
-Have served as a pall bearer on two or more occasions
-Have served in a wedding party on two or more occasions
-Have participated in at least 4 backpacking trips at least 15 miles in length.
-Have visited a minimum of 10 national parks and/or monuments.
-Have traveled to a minimum of 15 major American cities.
-Have traveled to a minimum of 10 major international cities.

Beyond those qualifications listed above there are no discriminatory factors which can bar an application from being reviewed or accepted.
The authenticity of an applicant’s qualifications will be accepted at face value as the members of the SRI are expected to be persons of honor.

Identification

Members of the SRI shall be known to each other only by their three initials, and if necessary through duplication, the appending of Roman numerals to these initials.
